Methuen Locks In Electric Rate Through 2027 Despite Grid Hike

Methuen's electric supply rate will stay locked through December 2027 even as National Grid raises its Basic Service rate again, the city announced this week, sparing residents from the latest increase hitting other Massachusetts communities on the utility's default service.

The city said its existing supply agreement keeps Methuen's rate fixed through the end of 2027, insulating households and businesses from National Grid's newest Basic Service rate increase. City officials framed the arrangement as continued protection for ratepayers as utility costs climb elsewhere in the region.

Separately, early in-person voting for the 2026 State Primary opened Saturday, Aug. 22, at Sanborn Hall and continues through Aug. 28. Registered voters who want a mail ballot instead must apply by 5 p.m. Aug. 25. The city also continues taking signups for its new curbside composting program with Black Earth Compost, and Mayor D.J. Beauregard's administration is finishing preparations for Acting Police Chief Jamie Moore to take over the department when Chief Scott McNamara retires Aug. 24.
