Methuen High School Welcomes New Teachers Ahead of Sept. 2 Opening

METHUEN — Methuen Public Schools is gearing up for the 2026-27 year, bringing new teachers in for orientation this week ahead of the Sept. 2 first day for students.

TOWN HALL Mayor D.J. Beauregard's appointment of Captain Jamie Moore as acting police chief took effect Monday, Aug. 24, as former Chief Scott J. McNamara's retirement became official. The Methuen Police Department is now under Moore's leadership as the city continues its search for a permanent chief.

SCHOOLS Methuen High School holds New Teacher Orientation Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 25 and 26, according to the district calendar, as Methuen Public Schools prepares to welcome its newest educators before classes resume. All staff report for their first day Sept. 1, with students returning the following day, Sept. 2.

COMING UP The Methuen Zoning Board of Appeals holds its regular meeting Wednesday, Aug. 26, at City Hall. The Historic District Commission meets Thursday, Aug. 27.
