Methuen Delays Trash Pickup, Adjusts City Hall Hours for Fourth of July Week

Residents heading to the curb or city hall this week should check their schedules twice: a trash and recycling collection delay is in effect today, June 29, and modified hours for city hall and the transfer station will carry through the Fourth of July holiday week.

The city posted two service alerts Monday morning. First, trash and recycling pickup is running on a delayed schedule today — residents should leave bins out and check the city website for updated collection times. Second, city hall and the transfer station will operate on adjusted hours for the week of July 4; the city's alert page has the specific schedule, and residents should confirm before making a trip.

Beyond the holiday logistics, the city's news feed surfaced several items worth noting heading into the holiday stretch. Mayor D.J. Beauregard and Public Employee Committee President Kara Blatt announced the ratification of a landmark health insurance agreement that will move city employees, retirees, and their families into the Group Insurance Commission, a shift that typically yields significant premium savings for both the municipality and workers.

The city is also seeking poll workers for the September 1 and November 3, 2026 elections. Interested residents can call the Election Department at 978-983-8515. Separately, the Oakland Avenue Bridge rail trail closure that began May 26 remains in effect; the trail will stay closed until bridge repairs are finished.
