METHUEN — Conservation Commission approves Merrimack River boom project with departmental caveats. The five-member board issued a Negative 2 Determination under state and Negative 3 Determination under local law for the Merrimack Valley Planning Commission's Shoreline Cleanup Project, which will deploy two 100-foot floating booms to capture debris from April through June under a state grant. Conservation Officer Chris Parsons cautioned that future operation hinges on coordination between Police and DPW, neither of which has yet committed; he stated booms will not deploy if departmental alignment fails.
Public comment from the Clean River Project raised concerns about contractor hazardous-waste certification, equipment capability, and a lean $18,000 budget. The Commission also approved a home expansion at 2 Sawyer Place and continued two Notices of Violation to May.
