Methuen City Council approves sale of Oakland Avenue School to Islamic Academy for Peace. The Council voted 8-1 to authorize the Oakland Avenue Trust to purchase the property at an assessed valuation of $2,680,100, with a $200,000 down payment and 25-year city financing at 6 percent fixed interest, generating an estimated $4.79 million in total revenue to the municipality. The Academy has operated a Pre-K through 8 school there since 2001, investing approximately $1.38 million in improvements at no city cost.
