City Council · Meeting of March 2, 2026

Methuen City Council approves sale of Oakland Avenue School to Islamic Academy for Peace. The Council voted 8-1 to authorize the Oakland Avenue Trust to purchase the property at an assessed valuation of $2,680,100, with a $200,000 down payment and 25-year city financing at 6 percent fixed interest, generating an estimated $4.79 million in total revenue to the municipality. The Academy has operated a Pre-K through 8 school there since 2001, investing approximately $1.38 million in improvements at no city cost.

The Council also unanimously approved a resolution promoting social media safety for youth under 16, framed as a call for local action similar to restrictions adopted in Australia and other democracies, and approved seven municipal service contracts totaling $681,468.81 including equipment, vehicles, and facility maintenance.
