METHUEN — The Methuen Board of Health tabled its proposed emergency regulation banning synthetically derived cannabinoids, kratom products, and unregulated novel intoxicants, requesting additional time for board review before April 9. In a related enforcement action, the board upheld a one-thousand-dollar fine against Neighborhood Convenience Market, 7 Cross Street, for selling tobacco to a minor; the owner's representative, Rajkumar S. Patel, requested relief but ultimately tendered full payment and committed to stricter ID verification procedures moving forward.
The board discussed adopting ID-scanning register technology to prevent future violations, with support offered by Ron Beauregard of Andover Tobacco Control. A new quarterly Public Health Excellence Governance Board was introduced by Caeli Tegan Zampach.
