Board of Assessors approves charitable tax status for Oakland Avenue property

METHUEN — Board of Assessors approves charitable status for one church property, defers another pending inquiry. Chairman Janet McLennan and board members Thomas J. Hoye and Susan Davila unanimously voted to grant tax-exempt charitable status to Fellowship Bible Church's property at 255 Oakland Avenue.
A second application from B.C.E.A. Neema Church Inc. at 4 Alderbrook Lane was deferred; the board instructed City Assessor Suzanne E. Doherty to request information on the church's pastoral staffing, residency plans, formation date, and congregation size before deciding at the next meeting.
The board also reviewed incoming development: a new hotel on Pleasant Valley Street, a residential project expected to file plans in April, and a mixed-use apartment-and-retail property on Osgood Street.
